ACON marks 40 years of service in 2025, honouring its journey from a small volunteer-led response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s to becoming one of Australia’s leading organisations for LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing. Born in a time of urgency, ACON pioneered community-led campaigns, support services and advocacy that saved lives and transformed care for people living with HIV. Over the decades, it expanded to address a wide range of issues including mental health, ageing, trans and gender diverse health, cancer prevention, community safety and more. Today, ACON continues to stand with LGBTQ+ communities across NSW, reflecting their resilience, strength and solidarity.
