Sideshow:  The Legacy of Michael Matou and The Sideshow Theatre Company  

Step into the glittering, defiant world of 1980s Sydney as we celebrate the legacy of Michael Matou and the Sideshow Theatre collective – a radical force in queer expression, cabaret and theatrical transcendence. Sideshow Burlesco brings together Martin Raphael – Matou’s partner and Sideshow’s musical director, alongside voices shaped by this era, including opera and cabaret star Kanen Breen and burlesque artist Imogen Kelly, with an homage to the indelible influence of Elizabeth Burton.  

Co-hosted by writer and performer Maeve Marsden and cabaret maven Ali McGregor, this evocative evening honours the artists who carved new queer spaces and inspired generations of boundary-pushing performers. A rare, rich tribute to a revolutionary moment in Australia’s performance history.
