Danika’s story

“My role within ACON’s Policy, Strategy and Research team allows me to progress rights, equality and empowerment for LGBTQ+ people through facilitating ACON’s engagement and participation in research and producing policy papers that advocate for the needs of the community.

We support and promote research that is fundamental to improving the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people through the Research Ethics Review Committee, while also ensuring that the research meaningfully includes people with lived experience. We also coordinate the Sydney GBQ+ Periodic Survey each year. The survey results have shaped the direction of many of ACONs public HIV and sexual health campaigns, helping to empower the community though increased awareness of, and access to, HIV prevention, testing and treatment.

We advocate for the needs and rights of the community through policy papers and submissions to legislators, policymakers and service providers. We empower the LGBTQ+ community be involved in decision making that affects them through meaningful consultation in the preparation of submissions.”
